Original Empire Magazine – August 1998, the Bumper 50th Issue of Britain's long-running movie magazine.

This is a particularly appealing issue for film collectors because it combines a major Jurassic Park feature with a celebration of Empire reaching its 50th issue. The cover is dominated by a dramatic Jurassic Park Tyrannosaurus rex image and promotes a feature looking at how the film became one of the biggest movie successes of all time.

MAGAZINE DETAILS

Magazine: Empire
Date: August 1998
Issue: 50th Issue
UK Edition: Yes
Cover Price: £2.20
Main Cover Feature: Jurassic Park

The front cover features a large close-up image of the T. rex from Jurassic Park, with the headline:

"MONSTER! HOW JURASSIC PARK BECAME THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME"

The cover also promotes the Bumper 50th Issue and highlights additional contents including Bill Clinton, Morrissey, Bette Midler and a feature on favourite movies.

JURASSIC PARK / FILM CONTENT

The magazine contains extensive movie-related material, with the Jurassic Park feature being one of the principal attractions of the issue.

The contents and illustrated pages show Empire's mixture of:

  • Major feature films and blockbusters

  • Film news and previews

  • Film reviews

  • Interviews and celebrity features

  • New releases and entertainment coverage

  • Film-related technology and design

  • Collectors' and cinema-interest material

The photographed interior pages also include Star Wars-themed artwork and imagery, presented as part of the magazine's film coverage. These pages show a selection of recognisable Star Wars-related objects and designs, including a Stormtrooper helmet, lightsaber, Millennium Falcon-style craft, BB-8 and other franchise imagery.

50TH ISSUE COLLECTOR APPEAL

The 50th issue status gives this edition additional interest for collectors of Empire itself. It represents an early milestone in the magazine's history and has the visual style and editorial presentation associated with Empire during the late 1990s.

The cover specifically promotes the milestone issue and features a strong retro cinema-magazine design, making it a good addition to a collection of:

Empire magazines, 1990s film magazines, Jurassic Park memorabilia, Star Wars magazine material and vintage movie publications.

CONDITION

Pre-owned vintage condition with visible signs of age and handling.

The front cover has noticeable surface wear and rubbing, including visible scuffs/scratches across the darker printed areas. There is general edge wear, with rubbing to the corners and along the outer edges.

The magazine has been handled and opened, and the pages show normal signs associated with an older pre-owned magazine. Some pages have natural curling/creasing from being opened, but the photographed interior remains generally presentable and readable.

The spine/edges also show signs of age and use. Please examine all supplied photographs carefully, as they form the best representation of the condition of this particular copy.

POSTER / INSERT INFORMATION

The photographs show large illustrated Star Wars-themed pages/spreads within the magazine, including artwork featuring characters, vehicles and equipment from the Star Wars universe.

I have not identified a separate removable poster or loose insert as being present from the photographs supplied. The illustrated pages shown appear to be part of the magazine itself.
