Original NME Magazine / New Musical Express dated 14 February 1998, with Cornershop as the main front-cover feature.

The cover is dominated by a large photograph of Tjinder Singh and Cornershop, accompanied by the prominent headline:

“SITAR TREK! CORNERSHOP”

and the major strapline:

“ON TOUR WITH OASIS”

This places the issue firmly within Cornershop’s major late-1990s breakthrough period and gives it additional appeal to collectors of Cornershop, Oasis, Britpop, indie and 1990s NME memorabilia.

The cover also advertises “NEW MANICS LP – PAGE 3”, referring to Manic Street Preachers, making this another notable feature from the issue.

At the upper right is:

“TOP PROG! ULTRASOUND – LITERALLY HAVING IT LARGE”

showing that Ultrasound also receive prominent coverage.

The lower cover contains a particularly strong selection of late-1990s alternative, indie, rock and electronic artists, including:

  • Mark Hollis
  • Lilys
  • Shellac
  • Photek
  • Add N To X
  • Chumbawamba
  • The Dandy Warhols
  • Imani Coppola
  • Pixies
  • Julian Cope
  • Dawn of the Replicants
  • Green Day

This is therefore a very representative 1998 NME issue, mixing one of the period’s biggest British crossover acts with Britpop, alternative rock, electronic music and established international names.

The Cornershop / Oasis touring connection is particularly prominent on the cover and is likely to be of interest to collectors of either band as well as buyers building collections of original 1990s British music press.

Condition

Pre-owned vintage condition with visible age-related handling and storage wear.

The front cover shows noticeable creasing, surface waviness and general handling wear, particularly around the outer margins and lower section.

The top edge is slightly uneven and shows light waviness. The right-hand edge also has visible waviness and some roughness/fraying consistent with the thin newspaper-style paper stock.

The left-hand edge/spine area shows handling wear, compression and small creases.

The bottom edge is slightly uneven, with visible storage wear and some light curling. The bottom corners are softened and show minor bending.

There is general age-related toning/discolouration to the pale outer border areas, together with minor marks and handling wear.

The central cover image, headlines and printed colours remain clearly visible and readable.

No obvious major large tears, heavy staining or writing can be seen in the supplied photograph.

Condition assessment is based on the single supplied image, so the interior pages and back cover cannot be fully assessed.
