Original NME Magazine / New Musical Express dated 24 May 1997, with Spiritualized as the main front-cover feature and Jason Pierce prominently pictured.
The cover uses a distinctive staged photograph showing Jason Pierce in a white astronaut-style suit reclining outdoors, with the large headline:
“COSMIC! SPIRITUALIZED”
and the subheading:
“The spaced-out genius of Jason Pierce”
This is a particularly striking late-1990s cover and should appeal strongly to collectors of Spiritualized, Jason Pierce, space rock, indie and alternative music memorabilia.
The top of the cover also advertises two major contemporary music stories:
- The Prodigy – LP details
- Ian Brown – goes solo
The right-hand side of the cover promotes a wide mix of additional artists and features, including:
- Symposium
- The Jam
- Marilyn Manson
- Reef
- Fugees
- The Seahorses
- Sneaker Pimps
- Harry Hill
- Will Self
- Mogwai
The issue also prominently advertises a “Free Big Beat Tape” and a “Free 60-Minute Tape Mixed by Fatboy Slim.” However, the supplied photograph does not clearly show the cassette itself, so the original tape should not be assumed to still be included.
The cover therefore gives this issue particularly broad collector appeal, spanning Spiritualized, Britpop, alternative rock, electronic music, hip-hop and big beat, with notable references to The Prodigy, Ian Brown and Fatboy Slim alongside the main Jason Pierce feature.

Condition
Pre-owned vintage condition with visible age-related handling and storage wear.
The front cover shows general creasing, wrinkling and surface waviness, particularly through the lower section and outer margins.
The bottom edge has noticeable handling wear and some curling/softening, with a more visible crease or fold around the lower central area.
The left-hand edge/spine area shows compression and minor creasing from handling.
The right-hand edge is slightly uneven and wavy, with light roughness consistent with the thin newspaper-style paper stock.
The corners are softened and show light bending from storage and use.
There is some age-related toning/discolouration to the pale outer border areas, along with small marks and general surface wear.
The main cover photograph, colours and text remain clear and readable.
No obvious large tears, heavy staining or writing can be seen in the supplied photograph.
Condition assessment is based on the single supplied image, so the interior pages, back cover and any original cassette extra cannot be fully assessed.
