Original NME Magazine / New Musical Express dated 26 April 1997, with The Seahorses as the main front-cover feature and John Squire prominently pictured.

The main cover headline reads:

“THE SEAHORSES”

with the subheading:

“ROSE AGAIN! JOHN SQUIRE lays down the law”

There is also a prominent quote across the cover:

“I would’ve started a group with Liam. But he was a bit busy…”

The issue is especially relevant to collectors of The Seahorses, John Squire, The Stone Roses and 1990s Britpop / indie memorabilia.

The top of the cover also promotes major Oasis news:

“WHAT THE WORLD’S BEEN WAITING FOR: The new OASIS single – full details”

with Noel Gallagher pictured.

Other prominent cover features include:

  • The Chemical Brothers – “Block’n’Roll Stars! The Chemical Brothers big beat up the nation”
  • Depeche Mode
  • Manic Street Preachers
  • Mansun
  • Reef
  • Placebo
  • Suede
  • Supergrass
  • Kenickie

The cover also advertises a free NME Style Guide ’97 with this issue, featuring Mansun, Reef, Placebo, Suede, Supergrass and Kenickie. The guide is advertised on the cover, but the supplied photograph does not clearly confirm whether the separate original guide is still present, so it should not be assumed to be included.

This is a very strong 1997 British music issue, combining John Squire’s post-Stone Roses band The Seahorses with major contemporary coverage of Oasis, The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and Manic Street Preachers.

Condition

Pre-owned vintage condition with visible age-related handling and storage wear.

The front cover shows noticeable creasing, wrinkling and surface waviness, especially around the outer margins and through the lower half.

The left-hand edge/spine area shows visible handling wear and compression, with several small creases and softened paper along the fold.

The right-hand edge appears uneven and slightly rough/wavy, with some light fraying consistent with the thin paper stock.

The top edge shows some light waviness and storage wear.

The bottom edge has minor creasing and general handling wear, while the lower corners are softened and lightly bent.

There is some age-related toning/discolouration to the pale outer margins, together with small marks and general surface wear.

The central cover image and printed text remain clear and readable.

No obvious major large tears, heavy staining or writing are visible in the supplied photograph.

Condition assessment is based on the single supplied image, so the interior pages, back cover and any separate inserts/extras cannot be fully assessed.
