Quantity

Pre-owned original Total Film magazine – December 2014, Issue 226.

The magazine is in good used condition overall for its age, but there is visible handling and storage wear which should be noted for collectors.

From the supplied image I can see noticeable rubbing and whitening along the outer edges, particularly down the right-hand edge and around the top-right corner. There is also lighter wear along the top edge, bottom edge and spine-side corners. The lower-right corner shows some softening/rubbing, while the lower-left/spine area has minor edge wear consistent with previous reading and storage.

The front cover has some light surface marks/scuffs but remains colourful, clear and presentable. I cannot see any major front-cover tear, large missing section or heavy staining in the supplied photograph.

Please study the product image carefully, as it forms an important part of the condition description.

Description

Original Total Film Magazine – December 2014, Issue 226, featuring an extensive The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies cover story and a wider Lord of the Rings / Hobbit special.

The cover is dominated by Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, presented in a dark Middle-earth setting with the issue promoted as providing:

“Complete On Set Access”

to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

This was the concluding instalment of Peter Jackson's Hobbit film trilogy, making this an especially attractive period magazine for collectors of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien-related film memorabilia and Martin Freeman material.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The main headline reads:

“THE HOBBIT – THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES”

with the magazine describing its coverage as going:

“Inside the final chapter of the biggest fantasy franchise of all time.”

The issue therefore captures the franchise at a particularly significant moment, immediately around the release period of the final Hobbit movie.

The central Bilbo cover portrait gives the magazine strong display appeal, with the muted brown, gold and stone-coloured design deliberately styled around the visual identity of Middle-earth.

Lord of the Rings & Hobbit Special

Across the very top of the cover is:

“ULTIMATE LORD OF THE RINGS AND HOBBIT SPECIAL”

The cover additionally advertises:

“THE LORD OF THE RINGS REVISITED: THE STARS – THE SECRETS – THE BEST BITS”

This makes the issue broader than a standard single-film preview, with retrospective material devoted to the wider Middle-earth film series.

For a collector, that combination of The Hobbit finale and Lord of the Rings retrospective material is one of the strongest attractions of this particular issue.

Other Films Featured

The cover advertises several other major late-2014 and forthcoming film releases.

Interstellar

Promoted as an “Epic Exclusive”, with Christopher Nolan's Interstellar specifically named.

Exodus: Gods and Kings

The cover features Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings among the major exclusives.

Cinderella

Kenneth Branagh's Cinderella is also advertised.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

Another significant contemporary release listed on the cover is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Taken 3

The magazine advertises a “First Look: Taken 3”.

Deadpool

A particularly interesting early feature for superhero-film collectors is the cover line:

“First Word: Deadpool”

Avengers 2

The issue also promises:

“New Pics: Avengers 2”

referring to the forthcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Collector Appeal

A strong issue for collectors of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Martin Freeman, Tolkien cinema memorabilia and fantasy-film magazines.

The December 2014 date is particularly relevant because this issue covers The Battle of the Five Armies as the final chapter of The Hobbit film trilogy while also looking back at the wider Lord of the Rings saga.

It also has excellent crossover appeal to modern film collectors because the cover advertises major titles including Interstellar, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Taken 3, Deadpool and Avengers 2.

No separate poster is clearly visible in the supplied image, so none is included in this description.
