Pre-owned / used magazine.
Please study all supplied photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
This copy shows visible signs of previous reading, handling and storage. The front cover has general surface rubbing and light scuffing, together with handling marks, light creasing and wear around the outer edges and corners. There is also small handwritten pen marking on the front cover near the Sammy image, which is clearly visible in the photographs and should be noted by collectors.
The spine and adjoining cover edges show some rubbing and age-related wear. The corners are not perfectly sharp, and there are small areas of edge wear consistent with a regularly handled weekly magazine from 2009.
The internal pages photographed remain bright, colourful and clearly readable. The open spreads appear securely held within the magazine, although there is normal page handling, slight waviness/creasing and minor edge wear in places. No major internal tears are obvious from the supplied photographs.
The rear cover shows some general handling and edge wear but remains intact.
No major missing sections are apparent from the photographs supplied, although the magazine has not been represented as mint, pristine or unread.
Description
Original ZOO Magazine – Issue 288, dated 11–17 September 2009.
A very model-focused late-2000s issue of the British weekly men's magazine, built around ZOO's “Ultimate Woman” feature and featuring numerous glamour, celebrity and model photographs throughout.
The front cover is arranged as a large collage highlighting different women chosen by the magazine for individual categories. Clearly named on the cover are:
- Sammy
- Cheryl
- Chanelle
- Erica
- Megan
- Frankie
The principal glamour image on the left is Sammy Braddy, whose name is confirmed within the photographed interior feature. She is featured as ZOO's selection for the “Best Boobs” category within the Ultimate Woman feature.
Another clearly identified model inside is Amii Grove, who receives a large full-page photograph as the magazine's “Best Bum” selection.
The photographed contents pages also specifically advertise model/celebrity content featuring Pixie Lott and Chanelle, alongside the issue's main “ZOO's Ultimate Woman” feature in which the magazine attempts to construct its ideal woman by selecting different attributes from a range of well-known women and models.
The supplied photographs show the feature continuing across several pages, with categories covering areas such as:
- Best boobs – Sammy Braddy
- Best bum – Amii Grove
- Legs
- Face
- Lips
- Body
- Other individual categories forming ZOO's “Ultimate Woman”
This makes the issue particularly model-heavy even by ZOO's standards, with full-page and large-format photography rather than only small celebrity news pictures.
Other Magazine Content
Beyond the model features, the photographed contents pages show the typical broad ZOO mixture of sport, celebrity, motoring, television, gadgets and humour.
Clearly visible features include coverage of:
Richard Hammond / Top Gear – including a feature discussing Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson.
Eduardo – football interview/content connected with Croatia and international football.
Ashley Cole – football material looking ahead to the 2010 World Cup.
Premier League football – including football trivia, features and predictions.
The issue therefore works as a good snapshot of British men's-magazine culture in 2009, combining glamour photography with Premier League football, television personalities, entertainment and lifestyle material in ZOO's distinctive bold, tabloid-style layout.
Notable Model Content Visible
Sammy Braddy – prominently pictured and specifically identified inside as the magazine's “Best Boobs” choice.
Amii Grove – receives a substantial full-page photograph and is clearly identified as the “Best Bum” selection.
Chanelle – prominently advertised on the cover and within the contents/model coverage.
Erica – heavily promoted on the upper-right portion of the front cover as a new ZOO feature/model.
Cheryl – centrally featured on the front cover as the magazine's “Best Face” selection.
Megan – prominently pictured on the front cover.
Frankie – shown on the front cover in the “Best Legs” category.
Pixie Lott – specifically named within the photographed contents as part of the issue's female celebrity coverage.
This is therefore a particularly appealing issue for collectors of late-2000s ZOO glamour/model photography and British celebrity magazines.
