Pre-owned / used vintage magazine.

Please study all supplied photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

This copy shows clear signs of previous handling, reading and storage. The front cover has general surface rubbing, light scratches/scuffs and handling marks, with visible wear along the outer edges and spine. There is some light creasing/waviness to the cover and minor corner wear.

Importantly, there is blue handwritten pen marking on the front cover, appearing to read “2199” near the upper-right area of the main cover image. This is clearly visible in the photographs and should be taken into consideration when assessing condition.

The internal pages photographed remain colourful, readable and generally present well for their age. There is normal page handling, light waviness and minor age-related edge wear in places. The large photographed features appear securely held within the magazine.

The rear cover also shows age-related surface/edge wear and has a small handwritten blue pen mark, appearing to be the number “5”, toward the right-hand area.

No major detached sections are apparent from the supplied photographs. This is an original used magazine from 2009 and is not being represented as mint or pristine.

Description

Original ZOO Magazine – Issue 297, dated 13–19 November 2009.

This late-2000s issue of the British weekly men's magazine is built around a substantial Gemma Merna cover and interior feature, with Sammie Pennington also prominently promoted.

The front cover is dominated by Gemma Merna, with the headline “In bed with… Gemma!” and a large full-colour photograph. The accompanying cover text identifies her as the Hollyoaks star and promotes a substantial pictorial feature inside.

At the upper-right of the cover, Sammie Pennington is separately pictured and promoted with the headline “How to turn me on!”, giving the issue a second major named model feature.

Gemma Merna Feature

The supplied photographs show a substantial full-colour Gemma Merna pictorial spread inside the magazine.

The opening photographed spread presents Gemma across two pages in a bedroom-style setting, with the headline “Gemma Merna!” and accompanying text referring to her Hollyoaks role and the magazine's feature.

The photography is large-format and occupies most of the double-page spread, making Gemma one of the principal subjects of this entire issue rather than simply a small cover mention.

The contents pages confirm that the Gemma feature is one of the issue's main attractions and describes her as Hollyoaks' featured woman, with the article beginning on page 38.

Sammie Pennington Feature

Sammie Pennington also receives a significant feature.

The photographed double-page spread is headed “How to… turn me on! by Sammie Pennington” and uses a large-format studio-style photograph extending across both pages.

The contents describe this as a feature in which Sammie gives readers a guided tour of her body, and her photograph is also prominently displayed on the magazine's front cover.

For collectors specifically interested in late-2000s British glamour/model magazines, the combination of Gemma Merna and Sammie Pennington gives this particular issue strong identifiable model content.

Other Female / Celebrity Content

The contents pages also advertise additional female celebrity coverage including references to:

  • Katy Perry
  • Britney Spears
  • Beyoncé
  • Bailey Godfrey

These sit alongside the issue's principal Gemma Merna and Sammie Pennington material.

Other Magazine Content

As with ZOO during this period, the magazine combines its model photography with a wide selection of sport, entertainment, celebrity, cars, gaming and humour.

Visible material in the supplied photographs includes:

  • Frank Lampard interview/England football coverage
  • Chris Moyles
  • Danny Dyer
  • Michael Bisping / UFC
  • Call of Duty coverage
  • Top Gear
  • Jedward
  • Football Manager
  • Premier League and England football discussion
  • Cars and motoring
  • Television listings
  • Gadgets
  • Style and grooming
  • Regular ZOO humour and news sections

The contents page also shows the magazine's familiar late-2000s mixture of short-form news pieces, celebrity coverage, football discussion and entertainment material.

Overall, this is a very typical and collectible example of ZOO Magazine from 2009, with bold tabloid-style design, large photography, celebrity/model features and extensive football and entertainment coverage.
